Donald Trump Revokes Secret Service Protection for Kamala Harris

President Donald Trump has officially revoked the Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, a move confirmed by a senior White House official on Friday. The decision cancels a security detail that had been extended by the Biden administration, sparking immediate concern among security experts.

Under federal law, former vice presidents and their families are entitled to Secret Service protection for a period of up to six months after leaving office. However, former President Joe Biden had signed a directive that extended Harris’s protection to 18 months, ensuring her detail would remain until July 2026. This undisclosed directive has now been canceled by President Trump.

The decision has been met with criticism from Democratic officials, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who called the move a "vindictive political impulse" that puts the former vice president in danger. The action comes as Harris, the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, is set to begin a high-profile book tour for her memoir, "107 Days." Trump has a history of ending security protection for political rivals and those who have fallen out of his favor, including his former national security adviser, John Bolton, and members of the Biden family.

The security revocation is effective September 1, 2025.
