Jurriën Timber's Masterclass
Defender Jurriën Timber was in exceptional form, contributing to three of Arsenal's five goals. He became only the second Arsenal defender in Premier League history, after Nacho Monreal, to register 3+ goal involvements in a single match with 2 goals and 1 assist. His performance was highlighted by his ability to be a threat from set pieces, scoring his first goal from a Declan Rice corner. Timber is also the first Gunners defender to both score and assist in the same Premier League game since Cédric Soares in May 2022.
Gyökeres Opens Arsenal Account
New striker Viktor Gyökeres opened his scoring account for the club with a brace. His first goal came shortly after halftime when he broke clear of the Leeds defense to fire a low shot into the net. He sealed his double from the penalty spot in stoppage time after an impressive run by a young debutant.
Max Dowman's Historic Debut
In a moment of history, 15-year-old Max Dowman made his Premier League debut, coming on as a substitute in the 64th minute. At 15 years and 235 days, he became the third-youngest player to ever appear in a Premier League match, behind his teammate Ethan Nwaneri and Leicester City's Jeremy Monga. Dowman wasted no time making an impact, winning the stoppage-time penalty that led to Gyökeres's second goal.
Leeds' Struggles Continue
For Leeds, the defeat marks their sixth consecutive away loss in the Premier League, their worst run on the road in the top flight since a nine-game streak in 1992-93. After a spirited first-half effort where they managed to hold off the Gunners and even create a chance of their own, they were unable to contain Arsenal's attacking firepower in the second half, producing only 0.16 xG.
