The shocking incident reportedly took place on September 22, 2025, at the Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area. The tragic development was first disclosed on Tuesday by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama.
According to sources, Lt. Haruna, a medical doctor who served as the Regimental Medical Officer with the 6 Battalion, was engaged in a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna. During the dispute, the wife allegedly poured petrol on the officer and ignited it, resulting in fatal injuries.
Lt. Haruna was initially rushed to the Military Reference Section within the barracks for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his burns, he was later transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH). Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the officer ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities have confirmed the arrest of Mrs. Samson Haruna in connection with the incident. She is currently in custody, and a military investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death remains ongoing. The case highlights the devastating consequences of domestic violence within the military community.
